WRITTEN BY: MARIELLE LOUISE O. MACTAL

Childhood Years

Marielle was born in Quezon City and spent her early childhood under the care of her grandmother, Lola Fanny. Since her parents worked in another city, Lola Fanny guided and supported her every day. She prepared Marielle for school, ensured she had meals, school uniform, and helped her develop good habits. Marielle enjoyed learning at school and made many friends. In the afternoons, she assisted her grandmother in their small store and computer shop, gaining a sense of responsibility. Although Lola Fanny was sometimes strict, her guidance was always filled with love. Marielle learned the importance of discipline, honesty, and kindness. She often played with her best friend, Fionna, and enjoyed exploring her surroundings. Her peers called her “iyakin” because of her sensitive and caring nature. At the age of eight, she welcomed her younger sister, Kiezhia, which brought joy and new responsibilities. She learned how to take care of her sister and share her belongings. Marielle also learned early lessons in entrepreneurship, selling candies and small items to neighbors. She enjoyed helping others and often gave treats to classmates. Weekends were spent playing, learning, and supporting her family. She liked reading books and using her imagination to create stories. She also enjoyed drawing, making crafts, and practicing small creative projects. Simple experiences, such as walking to the market with her grandmother, taught her patience and observation. Holidays were moments of joy and family bonding. Marielle’s childhood was filled with love, learning, and meaningful experiences. These years shaped her into a caring, curious, and responsible young girl.

Teenage Years

She discovered personal interests including journaling, calligraphy, and collecting stationery. School became more challenging, but she remained committed to her studies. Marielle joined school clubs and organizations, which helped her develop leadership and teamwork skills. During the pandemic, she explored entrepreneurship by starting a small business called Sugarpop Scrunchies. Through this venture, she learned about customer service, business management, and creativity. She built strong friendships with peers who shared her interests and values. Marielle also faced challenges, including moments of self-doubt and disappointment, which strengthened her resilience. She learned to manage her time effectively and prioritize her responsibilities. Serving as Secretary General of the UE Red Cross Youth Council SHS Unit taught her organizational skills and accountability. As Vice President-External of UE BiologEast, she developed collaboration and communication abilities. She also participated in volunteer activities to help her community. Marielle continued to explore new hobbies, from art to digital design. She celebrated small achievements, which motivated her to work harder.
